As Liverpool has one of Europe’s oldest Chinese populations, the lunar new year celebration each year is always a colorful, noisy and fun affair. It is also really crowded, but as a photographer you have to try and find your angle somehow, which is an interesting challenge. The event is held under the gorgeous arch made to mark the millennium by expert artisans from Shanghai, Liverpool’s twin city in China.
Four of my photographs from my Chinese ‘Year of the Pig’ series were selected for an exhibition at the Chinese Museum in Melbourne, Australia. The exhibit celebrating Chinese culture included a selection of images from around the world. The images now form part of the permanent collection of the museum.
Thanks to curator Lorinda Cramer for photos of the display, as I was not able to make it to the exhibition myself!
